A Girl Thing

Some of you guys know but some of you guys might not know. I have two dogs, a Yorkie Terrier and a Siberian Husky. There are owners out there– people who enjoy walking their dogs or playing with them or teaching them tricks. But me, the best thing about having pets is getting to FEED them. That’s all I look forward to each day; filling their bowls with food and watching them eat, and I get a feeling of satisfaction when they eat all of their food. I feel like a good owner, or like a good mother. It must be a natural maternal thing in girls. It’s so ironic because I don’t like kids and I don’t want to have kids in the future. My pets are my babies.

It’s so wonderful at home. My two siblings are in Pennsylvania for the summer, and they will be there for two months. That means I get the whole house to myself, with the puppies here.

Here are pictures of Maya and Lexi (the Yorkie Terrier, my favorite baby):

  3. me too have a dog (basty) he’s a labrador retriever and for me the best thing about having pets is not only to feed them but to care and love them like your own siblings… i feed and take care of my dog as if he is my real son i am the one who takes care for his grooming and his health…

you’re still young no wonder you’re not YET interested in having a baby but soon, and i’m pretty sure of that, you’ll love to have one.. have a nice day.. :)

  9. I’m with you on the kid thing, Hallie. I don’t want them either. Well, let me rephrase that… I sometimes want them but I don’t want the responsibility of another person’s life.

Kids are a lot of work and just because we’re people doesn’t mean we *have* to reproduce. I think most people just think it’s what they are *supposed* to do and they don’t think about it in the long-term.

Perhaps when you get older, you may change your mind about children, perhaps not. A lot of people said that by the time I was 25 I would want kids if I didn’t have any before then. I’m now almost 30 and I still don’t have nor want them.

I think that if you don’t want them, that’s your business. Good for you. It will prove to be an issue if Justin wants them and you don’t but I’m sure you two will compromise in some way. :) Dogs make for nice children. ;)

    Just kidding. Heh.

    Good luck to you. *hugs*

  10. Deirde, you’re a bad influence on Hallie =P. Like all other animals, we are meant to reproduce. In the older days, if a woman refused to have children she would probably be tried as a witch or something. Yes, those were hard times and I do not support that era, and I do not think everyone should reproduce [because there are some horrible eligible parents in this world], but I still believe we should make use of what we evolved with.

  11. Well, ultimately, Hallie isn’t living her life according to me, so no matter what I “influenced” her to do, you can rest assured that her own views would be the deciding factor.

If we are “meant” to produce, what about the people who simply “can’t”?

Children are a huge responsibility and I think that perhaps when Hallie is older, she could possibly change her mind, but she also might not. It doesn’t make her less of a woman.

I hope that whatever you two decide for your lives, you take each other’s feelings into consideration. Too many people give into a spouses wish for children simply because they feel pressured to when they really didn’t want them to begin with and then guess who suffers for it? The children.

Like I said, good luck to you both. Bad influence or not, I think it’s great Hallie is standing up for what she believes in.

  12. Ps. All of that was said with love. *hugs* for Justin. I don’t mean to come off moody. I’m not being that way. Just… informative? I don’t know. *hugs* :D

  13. Yes, Deirdre, I know you have little influence on Hallie’s life overall, so I was only humoring myself. As far as those who “can’t” have kids, they are victims of natural selection. I’m not saying she is less of a woman for choosing not to have children, nor would she be less if she “couldn’t” have kids. From what I have observed she has all of her female parts, so the only thing preventing her from having children is a mental block, which more women these days appear to be having than compared to previous generations. You can thank American culture and society for that.

  14. Well, I guess I am wrong on one part: we are both not sure if she can really have kids yet. I’m only assuming she can. Bad on me.

  16. Isn’t the world pretty much OVER populated as it is? What do you mean women these days appear to have mental block? Women these days are spitting out kids like there’s no tomorrow! It’s the women like Hallie and I who are actually THINKING about it FIRST. *sigh*

  17. *The women like us who should get kudos for not just … following in the footsteps. Oh well. I guess kids are for some and not others. Time will tell. Good luck. :)
